A bare cast iron Dutch oven sized for two to four people: soups, stews, braises and bread. The interior is fully polished, and the lid has channels that drip moisture back into the pot. Made in the USA, about 11.5 lb.
Why it lasts: there is no enamel to crack or chip, which is the usual way a Dutch oven dies. Smithey says the surface will never stain or chip and only gets better with use.
The guarantee, in Smithey's words: "If your Smithey is defective, we'll replace it. If it fails you after honest and normal use, we'll repair or replace it." Smithey also runs a paid factory restoration service that strips old seasoning, removes rust, smooths the surface if needed and re-seasons the piece, so a neglected pan can come back instead of going in the trash.
