Stargazer takes a raw casting from its own US foundry and CNC machines the entire cooking surface, which fixes the rough-surface problem at the source and lets it set the thickness of every pan precisely. The base is cast slightly concave with uniform walls, so it flexes flat as it heats instead of bowing into a spinner. At 6.5 pounds it is light for a true 12 inch, and the forked handle is designed to stay cooler. The warranty has, in Stargazer's words, no expiration.
The weakest link it solves: Warping and the rough as-cast surface, plus a big skillet that is actually liftable.
