Cast Iron Dutch Oven, 7 Quart by Lodge
The Buy Me Once Verdict

A plain, unglamorous, bare cast iron Dutch oven with loop handles and a heavy lid. No enamel, no color chart, nothing to chip. It is what people cooked stews in before enamel existed and it still does the job beautifully.

Why this should last

Enameled Dutch ovens fail at the enamel: a dropped lid or a thermal shock and you have a chip that spreads. Bare iron has no enamel to chip. It will rust if neglected and recover with a scrub and a re-season. The lid is iron too, so there is no knob to melt or glass to crack.

Is it the right one for you?

7 quarts feeds a crowd: a big chili, a pot roast, a loaf of bread. It is heavy and it needs seasoning like a skillet. If you want a pot you can leave acidic sauces sitting in for hours, enameled is the better choice; for everything else this is the cheaper, tougher option.

The guarantee

Lodge's Made Right limited lifetime warranty on seasoned cast iron.
