Cast Iron Skillet, 10.25 inch by Lodge
The Buy Me Once Verdict
The pan that keeps coming up whenever people talk about things that outlast their owners. Lodge has been pouring cast iron in Tennessee since 1896, and this 10.25 inch skillet is the one most American kitchens start with.
Why this should last
It is one solid piece of iron. There is no coating to flake, no rivet to loosen and no handle to snap. If it ever rusts (it will if you leave it wet), you scrub it back and re-season it, and it carries on. Secondhand Lodge pans from the 1950s are still frying eggs every morning.
The pre-seasoning gets you cooking on day one, and it only gets slicker the more you use it. Stovetop, oven, grill or campfire, it does not mind.
Is it the right one for you?
10.25 inches is the everyday size: two steaks, four eggs, a cornbread. It is heavy, which is part of why it holds heat so well, so if you want something lighter for daily flipping look at a carbon steel pan instead.
The guarantee
Lodge's Made Right limited lifetime warranty: if a seasoned cast iron piece doesn't meet their standards or yours, they make it right.
