Duromatic Stovetop Pressure Cooker, 7 Liter by Kuhn Rikon
The Buy Me Once Verdict
Electric multi-cookers are appliances: a circuit board, a heating element and a plastic lid, all of which age. A stovetop pressure cooker is a pot with a clever lid, and the Swiss have been making this one since 1949. Beans in 20 minutes, stock in 40, a pot roast in under an hour, on a fraction of the energy.
Why this should last
The body is 18/10 stainless steel with a thick bonded base, so it doubles as a big stockpot with the lid off. The spring valve has no weight to lose and no jiggler to wear. The only parts that wear are the rubber gasket and the valve seals, and Kuhn Rikon has sold those as spares for decades, so a 30-year-old Duromatic is still a working pressure cooker rather than landfill.
Is it the right one for you?
7 liters (about 7.4 quarts) suits a family or batch cooking; it is a tall pot to store. Works on induction. If you want set-and-forget with a timer, an electric cooker is more convenient; if you want something you will hand down, this is it.
The guarantee
Kuhn Rikon guarantees Duromatic pressure cookers for 10 years against faulty workmanship and materials, with 2 years on wear parts such as gaskets.
