D3 Stainless Steel Fry Pan with Lid, 12 inch by All-Clad
The Buy Me Once Verdict

Ask a room full of people which pan they have had the longest and someone will say All-Clad. The D3 is the original: a layer of aluminum bonded between two layers of stainless steel, all the way up the sides, made in Pennsylvania since the 1970s.

Why this should last

Fully clad means the aluminum core runs through the whole pan, not just a disc on the bottom, so there is no disc to separate and no hot spot at the edge. The stainless surface cannot peel, the handle is riveted steel, and the lid is steel too. Owners routinely report pans bought in the 1990s that still look new after a scrub with Bar Keepers Friend.

Is it the right one for you?

Stainless is not non-stick; it rewards preheating and a little fat, and it will stick if you rush it. In return it is dishwasher safe, oven safe and indifferent to acid, metal utensils and neglect. 12 inches is the family size. The handle shape divides opinion, so hold one if you can.

The guarantee

All-Clad's limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
