The Rabbiting Spade’s shape was historically used for retrieving small hunting dogs or ferrets from collapsed rabbit holes. Nowadays, the curved blade is more suited for transplanting and repotting shrubs, especially if they are found in confined spaces as it’s perfect for digging deep, precise rounded holes without disturbing other surrounding plants. The forged head that Bulldog is known for is topped with an extremely sturdy FSC-certified ash wood handle.
British brand Bulldog Tools have been crafting strong, reliable gardening tools in Clarington Forge, Wigan since 1780. For over 200 years, they have been a trusted name among gardeners, farmers and professional landscapers worldwide, outlasting other tools in the shed and being passed down from one generation to another.
Their forged spades and forks are made from a single piece of metal and crafted from an extremely strong and durable steel. Manufacturing hasn’t changed much over the centuries and still involves heating newly pressed steel to 1,100 Celsius before being molded into shape by Bulldog craftspeople. While this manufacturing process may take more time, the end result is a gardening tool that is as resilient and strong as its company’s namesake.
