The family-size Smithey Dutch oven, for slow cooking and stews for four. A fully polished interior, a moisture-channel lid, and a nice extra: the domed lid also fits the Smithey No.10 skillet. Made in the USA, about 14 lb.
Why it lasts: bare seasoned iron instead of enamel, so there is no coating to crack, chip or wear away. If the seasoning ever gets tired, it can be redone.
The guarantee, in Smithey's words: "If your Smithey is defective, we'll replace it. If it fails you after honest and normal use, we'll repair or replace it." Smithey also runs a paid factory restoration service that strips old seasoning, removes rust, smooths the surface if needed and re-seasons the piece, so a neglected pan can come back instead of going in the trash.
